Biography

Dr. Boeckner is currently involved in developing nutrition education and health programs to address Nebraska adults though the extension education system. This responsibility encompasses projects to increase fruit and vegetable intake in young adults, improve health behaviors related to healthy eating and physical activity in midlife to older rural women, as well as to address issues related to an aging Nebraska population. Focus groups across the state in 2002 have identified these major themes related to aging issues: financial security, health care access and healthy quality of life, social and family relationships across generations, and aging friendly communities that address services, transportation and housing infrastructure. Work with the mid to older adult women is being done in the context of the health promotion model with a focus on behaviors related to eating and physical activity. An emerging interest centers on factors that are creating an obesigenic environment in our schools and communities.
