Biography

Dr. Evans graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in Psychology in 1974. He worked as a staff psychologist at Boys Town and as the Director of Evaluation for the Boys Town home campus program. From there he moved to the Florida Mental Health Institute, a major component of the University of South Florida, where he was the Director of the Family Teaching Project and later Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Law and Mental Health. Dr. Evans returned to Nebraska in 1986 as Director of Psychology of the Munroe-Meyer Institute (MMI) and continues in this role as well as being the Associate Director of the Munroe-Meyer Institute.

As the Director of the Pediatric Psychology program at UNMC, Dr. Evans is actively involved in a number of activities including clinical service, intern training, research and grantsmanship. He supervises the ADHD clinic for MMI and is considered the adolescent psychology treatment specialist for the Department. He assisted Dr. Jane Conoley in establishing the Nebraska Internship Consortium in Professional Psychology and served on the Consortium Board of Supervisors for the first 5 years of its existence. He continues to supervise Psychology interns, post-doctoral fellows, and ten faculty members of the Department. Dr. Evans' programmatic interests are in training, rural behavioral health, program dissemination, and policy issues relating to provision of pediatric psychology services to under-served communities and populations. He is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and is responsible for generating grant funds and contracts to support the mission of MMI and the Psychology Department. He has generated over $6.3 million dollars of Federal and State grant/contract support over the past 18 years and is currently the PI on grants from HRSA, Americorps, and the Department of Justice. His research interests are in ADHD, the integration of behavioral health into primary pediatric practice, and rural behavioral health care provision.
