Biography
Kimberly A. Tyler received her doctorate in 1999 from Iowa State University. Dr. Tyler is currently an Associate Professor of Sociology at UNL. Her research interests include child abuse and neglect, victimization, mental health, HIV risk behaviors, social networks, homeless and emerging young adults and high-risk behaviors among adolescents and youth. Her research has focused on early family abuse and neglect and its effects on numerous outcomes including sexual victimization, risky sexual behaviors, and mental disorders such as dissociative behavior and self-mutilation.
Dr. Tyler currently has an NIMH Career Development Award Grant (K01) to study neglect and abuse histories among homeless young adults. She has written numerous papers on this grant which include sexual victimization, trading sex, social networks, and bidirectional violence.
