Abstract
This project is funded by a subcontract from the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
This project is designed to improve access to early childhood programs and intervention resources for immigrant and refugee families in Nebraska by gaining a deep understanding of their unique experiences and interactions within existing systems.
Researchers aim to identify barriers and resources encountered by immigrant and refugee populations in Nebraska when accessing early childhood programs, and facilitate effective communication channels with caregivers to gain insights into their perspectives on child development, definitions of developmental delay or disability, and the cultural tensions between their own definitions and those of Western culture.
They will also investigate and document specific challenges faced by caregivers from immigrant and refugee backgrounds in seeking screening for developmental delay, as well as barriers hindering their access to early intervention services.
Collected data will be used to tailor strategies that specifically address barriers faced by immigrant and refugee populations.
